SEPTEMBER 2022

The #BeKind movement is a grassroots effort to transform behaviours across communities.  In effect, it is a secular expression of some of the principles underpinning Christianity – mercy, forgiveness, trust, among others. Donal Neary SJ’s editorial in the September Messenger says ‘Kindness is in the heart of God’; the call to abolish the death penalty–the Pope’s Prayer for September– calls for kindness in the form of mercy;  there is kindness in the material and psychological support afforded to refugees fleeing war when we house them; mercy or kindness is central to the Gospel of Luke, as we see from the parable of the Prodigal Son; we see kindness in the work of the Jesuit Refugee Service in their work in Syria, as they plant seeds of encounter and understanding among diverse communities.

We also reflect on our Christian responsibility to our environment and the diverse species with whom we share the earth; we examine the trust that underpins our economy; we are introduced to the Faber Companions, a lay community guided by Ignatian spirituality. And, along with our regular features, we welcome back our RE:LINK supplement which this month explores the Search for Meaning!

RE: LINK
Our pull-out supplement for teenagers and younger readers returns after the summer break.

The September RE:LINK, which is one of our three FREE READS this month, examines the human search for meaning, evident in every age and civilisation.
