More Images: The Crescent: Sacred Heart College and Crescent College Comprehensive SJ 1859-2009 is a celebration of one hundred and fifty years of Jesuit education in Limerick city.
The Jesuits came back to Limerick in 1859 after a break of 86 years. They opened a school for boys, which moved from Hartstonage Street to the Crescent in 1862. In 1970 Sacred Heart College became Crescent College Comprehensive and moved to a new site and building in Dooradoyle in 1972. In 1974 it went co-educational.
This is a collection of snapshots and portraits, memoirs and reflections, of Crescent College past and present. All of the contributors are either past pupils, or current or past teachers of the school.
One of the ideals of Jesuit education is to help students grow into men and women of competence, conscience and compassion. This book attempts to give a flavour of how these ideals have been pursued over the past 150 years in Limerick. |
